Boudoir Session - On Location at the most adorable SLC Airbnb with Casey

I shot this mini-session with Casey a few weeks ago when I rented this super cute Airbnb with a few weeks ago. I love getting out of the studio from time to time and shooting in new locations. It switches things up, it challenges me and it keeps things fresh.

Casey shoot was the last of the day in a string of mini-sessions and we had so much fun laughing and chatting and jamming out to Mary Lambert. We definitely lost track of time and went over our 30-minute session but it was so worth and such a blast! Here's a few of our faves from her session :)

How did you feel when you saw your images for the first time?

I loved them! Essie captured my personality—especially the sexy side of my personality—really, really well. I knew who I was looking at and was happy to see her. I looked confident, I looked comfortable, and I looked sexy. I loved them.

Would you recommend doing a boudoir photo shoot to a friend?

Without a doubt! It’s a great way to learn more about your body in an environment that encourages you to love it.

Has doing this photo-shoot changed the way you look at yourself?

Essie’s work let me see myself as sexy. I am comfortable in my body to begin with, so this shoot was more a chance to extend that comfort, and in new directions.

What was your favorite photo from the shoot, and why?

Ooh, good question! I think my favorite is the one where I’m holding a pillow to my body as I laugh at something Essie and I were talking about. My easy comfort, happy smile, and still present sexiness is beautiful.

Boudoir Session - In the studio with Tommy

Shooting with Tommy was a dream! I first met Tommy at a work christmas party back when I was still working for Blue Boutique. She was so sweet and kind and I was blown away by her beauty, I thought to myself then "I really want to take her photos someday" well fast forward to months later, my wish finally came true!

The hour I spent with her shooting in my studio was so much fun. We laughed and chatted as I clicked away and even as I scrolled through the unedited versions of her photos after the session, I knew that It was going to be hard to pick my favorites because she totally rocked it!

I asked her some follow-up questions after the session because I wanted to know how she felt about the experience. Here are her words, and some of our favorite images from her boudoir photoshoot:

How would you describe your experience with me during the photoshoot?

I loved it <3 You are so sweet and easy to be comfortable with.  Especially since I'm the kind of person who easily uses being goofy for a defense mechanism when i'm not feeling myself.

You just played with that and made it a part of the photoshoot so that it really portrayed my personality.

How did you feel when you saw your images for the first time?

I knew they were going to be beautiful, but wow! The studio really looked like a natural setting and the lighting and editing was beautiful.

Would you recommend doing a boudoir photo shoot to a friend?

Definitely, I already have!

If this was a gift for your partner, what was their reaction?

I did show them to my boyfriend and he loved them!

Has doing this photo-shoot changed the way you look at yourself?

I definitely have things I need to work on, just like anyone else, and I noticed those things of course; but a lot of the insecurities that I have when it comes to showing so much of my skin were seen differently in these photos.

Being a bigger girl I get insecure from my cellulite on my butt, but my ass looked fine as hell in those booty shots! If my stretch marks were showing in any of the photos I think the beauty of the shot overall made me not notice them like I normally would.

Also, this may seem silly because people tell me I have a pretty smile, but I have a slight insecurity with my teeth. I've pretty much grown out of it and realized I look the way I look so I will have to accept it, but I didn't come from the most loving family and got often told I had large "horse" teeth. So, with that, thank you for helping me to see what other people see, because I really did feel like my smile was beautiful when I saw these.

What was your favorite photo from the shoot, and why?

There were A LOT that I liked so that's kind of hard, but I think my favorite was the one in my black robe and black teddy on the bed on my stomach with my heels in the back ground and I'm smiling.

The photo in a whole is beautiful, but that's the picture where I was like "wow, I really do have a pretty smile." It was such a real smile with all the face crinkles ha ha

Overall, How would you describe your boudoir experience, from start to finish?
From start to finish you made me feel comfortable and it was FUN which I think is really important being in such an intimate setting.

How to prepare for a Boudoir Photoshoot

The beauty of boudoir photography is the fact that it’s all about you! When deciding what outfits to wear for your shoot, make sure that you choose clothing that makes you feel comfortable and sexy. Your favorite piece of lingerie is a great place to start, but if that’s not your style go with what you know. For example, an oversized shirt and long socks is cute and comfy, a sexy cocktail dress gives you a unique look, and don’t forget, you could always choose the bare-naked route. ;)

Buying lingerie:

The most important thing when purchasing lingerie is to wear your correct size. So many women are wearing the wrong bra size, or do not know their correct size. Many lingerie stores have staff that are well trained to fit you for the correct bra.

Purchase lingerie that fits you now. It will look and feel better than an outfit that you're hoping to fit into at a later date. Be confident and rock clothes that are right for your body right now!

Prepare before the shoot:

If needed make an appointment before your shoot to get roots retouched, split ends trimmed, etc,.

Remove chipped nail polish, or schedule nail appointment to get your nails done.

If you’re not comfortable with body hair showing in your photos make sure to shave. Try on lingerie ahead of time to determine whether or not you’ll want to schedule a bikini wax.

Listen to your body. Schedule your shoot a week or more after your period to avoid any bloating or discomfort. Drink lots of water, avoid alcohol and salty foods.

Protect your skin. Use sun-screen, avoid excessive sun, self-tanners and tanning beds.

Decide if you'll be wearing glasses or contacts.

What to bring to the shoot:

Along with your outfits, these accessories always look great on camera and help to tie your look together:

-Your favorite pair of high heels or cute shoes (You can never go wrong with Nude, or Black heels)

-Thigh high tights or long socks

-Garter belt

-Special jewelry (pearls from your significant other, wedding/engagement rings, dangly earrings, etc,.)

-Props that show off your personality and style. (Handcuffs, Shibari ropes, silk eye mask, your partners tie, a fan, your favorite book, etc,.)

- A silk robe (comfy and cute!)

On the day of your shoot:

Wear clear or spray-on deodorant that won’t clump up.

Wear loose fitting clothing. Avoid bras or tight jeans that could leave impressions or red marks in your skin.
